“Joseph jacked off until he came, and put his seed into a turkey baster, and gave it to Mary, who squirted it into herself, and she conceived;
And, nine months later, she gave birth to a son, whom they named Jesus.”
Alright, it’s no secret if you fallow me that I love literature and an even deeper love for F. Scott Fitzgerald. I’ve read just about every one of his novels but Tender is the Night has always held a place in my heart. It shows how strong Fitzgerald’s characterization can be. Gatsby, as good as it is, lacks the deep heartfelt characters Tender has. I know hundreds of hansom douchebags like Dick Diver and just as many slutty bitches like Rosemary. It’s funny reading about them interact with each other around their fucked up problems. Fitzgerald dropped his glitzy and glamorous sentences for raw, but descriptive, passages. It’s beautiful and moving. I think Nicole Diver is F. Scott’s best creation. She’s a lot like Betty Draper-Francis from Mad Men. She’s woman who’s not quite “there”, but she’s so human that the reader almost has to fall in love with her. She’s an amazing character. I will always tip my hat to Mr. Fitzgerald his concept. Sorry about the rant guys. I think Tender is a near perfect book who’s flaws make it powerful and human. Even better than Gatsby in my opinion.
